Sometimes it takes a while for a group to come together and make a record.

This is definitely true of Decommissioned Forests: the result of friendships going back to the beginnings of this century and a shared love of the darker post-industrial world of Coil, Current 93, Cabaret Voltaire and Nurse With Wound.

In this collaboration, Daniel Vincent (of cult space rockers The Resonance Association) handles the music, ably abetted by Howard Gardner (the multi-media artist behind Non-Bio, Pillars of Golden Misery and Down With Freedom), whilst the vocals are channelled by Max Rael (the lynchpin of post-industrial noiseniks History of Guns).

The result is at times unsettling, at others genuinely moving: whilst tracks such as Destroy All Names and Technician provide post-punk and modern electronica touchpoints, the longer meandering pieces Drifting Into Darkness, Dead Air and Black Holes draw on Rael’s bleak lyrics and unassuming vocal delivery.
